It wasn’t until I’d reached the business end of my 20s that I worked up the courage to not just throw off the bowlines, but blow the whole damn “safe harbor” up and cycle to Argentina via the world for the ultimate grand adventure. I’d worked as a newspaper journalist in Australia for years, but in 2014, with my boyfriend Scott, we gave it all away, bought a bike, camping kit and a one way ticket to Scotland’s wild north and set off on the ultimate long road home.

Since then we’ve compromised our pants more times than I’m willing to admit (thank you Central Asian parasites), had valuables nicked out of a pannier by a rogue dog, had tantrums half way up passes and peed on our bikes twice to melt the gears during blizzards. Somehow we made it to China via Northern Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia and then somehow we made it to Alaska.

There’s still a long way south to go and a hell of a lot of adventures left to share but so far we’ve learnt to never cycle on an empty stomach, that the world is largely uphill and windy and that adventures (whether big or small) are not just reserved for an elite few - but anyone who dares to dream.
